Balderston finished 4-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Balderston defeated Glen Godberson (Fort St. John, BC) 2-0, then won 2-0 against Colin Griffith (Grande Prairie, AB) and 2-0 against Jeff Ginter (Dawson Creek, BC). Balderston won 5-1 against Tom Sallows (Grande Prairie, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
