Doug Pottinger (Eden Prairie, MN) run at the 2016 USA Mixed Doubles National Championship came to an end in the semifinals with a 9-3 loss to Jason Smith (St. Paul, MN). of the 2016 USA Mixed Doubles National Championship in Denver, Colorado;
 
Pottinger finished 5-1 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Pottinger defeated Sam Williams (Acton, MA) 8-3, then won 10-4 against Derrick McLean (Bothell, WA). Pottinger went on to lose 10-4 against Smith. Pottinger responded with a 6-5 win over Monica Walker (Brighton, MA). Pottinger won 8-5 against Kroy Nernberger (Madison, WI), then won 9-3 against Alex Leichter (Boston, MA) in their final qualifying round match.
