To advance to the championship game, Dunstone won 8-3 over Tyler Tardi (Langley, BC) in the semifinals of the 2016 Canadian Junior Men's Championship presented by Egg Farmers of Ontario in Stratford, Ontario;
 
Dunstone finished 9-1 in the 14-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Dunstone defeated Arthur Siksik (Rankin Inlet, NU) 33-1, then won 8-3 against Doug Kee (Ottawa, ON) and 11-6 against Greg Smith (St. John, NL). Dunstone won 7-2 against Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS), then won 9-4 against Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) and 9-3 against Felix Asselin (Montreal, QC). Dunstone won 7-3 against Alex Robichaud (Moncton, NB), then won 6-3 against Jake Hersikorn (Saskatoon, SK). Dunstone went on to lose 7-5 against Horgan. Dunstone responded with a 5-4 win over Tardi in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Canadian Junior Men's Championship presented by Egg Farmers of Ontario Championship title, Dunstone earned 19.237 world rankings points. For week of the event schedule, Dunstone did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Dunstone ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
