Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) finished 6-4 in the 14-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay lost 10-4 to Doug Kee (Ottawa, ON), then responded with a 9-4 win over Greg Smith (St. John, NL). Sturmay won 23-2 against Arthur Siksik (Rankin Inlet, NU). Sturmay went on to lose 9-4 against Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB). Sturmay responded with a 9-8 win over Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS). Sturmay went on to lose 8-4 against Felix Asselin (Montreal, QC). Sturmay lost 8-6 to Tanner Horgan (Copper Cliff, NONT) where Sturmay responded with a 11-3 win over Tyler Tardi (Langley, BC). Sturmay won 6-4 against Alex Robichaud (Moncton, NB), then won 7-6 against Jake Hersikorn (Saskatoon, SK) in their final qualifying round match.

Sturmay earned 2.473 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Sturmay did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Sturmay ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
