Melissa Runing (Mapleton, MN) lost 7-0 to Cory Christensen (Duluth, MN) in the Final of the USA Junior National Championships, held January 16 - 23, 2016 in Willmar, Minnesota.

Runing finished 7-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Runing defeated Emily Quello (Bemidji, MN) 5-4, then went on to lose 7-4 against Christensen. Runing responded with a 6-5 win over Cora Farrell (Fairbanks, AK). Runing won 12-6 against Sidney Schroeder (Houghton, MI), then won 6-3 against Rebecca Rodgers (Petersham, MA) and 9-1 against Maya Willertz (Midland, MI). Runing won 10-2 against Annmarie Dubberstein (Portage, WI), then won 9-4 against Elizabeth Cousins (Medfield, MA). Runing went on to lose 8-6 against Emily Brekke (Grand Forks, ND) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the USA Junior National Championships, Runing take home 15.283 world rankings points. For week of the event schedule, Runing did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Runing ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
