Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) qualified for the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 9-3 against Mark Nichols (St. John's, NL).  of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia; 
 
Laycock finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) 9-6, then won 6-5 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA). Laycock went on to lose 9-3 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Laycock lost 6-3 to Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Laycock earned 35.997 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, remaining in 8th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 554.135 total points. Laycock ranks 5th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 230.123 points earned so far this season.
