Mark Nichols (St. John's, NL) run at the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 came to an end in the semifinals with a 6-4 loss to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia; Nichols advanced through the quarterfinals with a 9-3 win over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK). of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia;
 
Nichols finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Nichols defeated Kyle Smith (Stirling, SCO) 9-4, then won 8-4 against Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB). Nichols went on to lose 7-6 against John Epping (Toronto, ON). Nichols responded with a 7-3 win over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Nichols earned 50.995 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 809.458 total points. Nichols ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 281.815 points earned so far this season.
