Kyle Smith (Stirling, SCO) lost 7-3 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, held November 8 - 13, 2016 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. To advance to the championship game, Smith won 6-5 over Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) in the semifinals of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia; and won 7-5 over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia;
 
Smith finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith lost 9-4 to Mark Nichols (St. John's, NL), then responded with a 6-1 win over Carruthers. Smith won 8-7 against Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB), then won 6-4 against John Epping (Toronto, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, Smith take home 65.994 world rankings points along with the $15,000CDN prize, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 16th place overall with 331.708 total points. Smith ranks 7th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 203.209 points earned so far this season.
