Val Sweeting (Edmonton, AB) won 8-4 over Michelle Englot (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, held November 8 - 13, 2016 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. To advance to the championship game, Sweeting won 9-2 over Allison Flaxey (Caledon, ON) in the semifinals of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia; and won 7-5 over Tracy Fleury (Sudbury, NONT) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Cranbrook, British Columbia;
 
Sweeting finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sweeting lost 7-5 to Sherry Middaugh (Coldwater, ON), then responded with a 9-3 win over Anna Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, SWE). Sweeting won 6-5 against Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, MB), then won 6-3 against Alina Paetz (Zurich, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 Championship title, Sweeting earned 80.114 world rankings points along with the $20,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 4th place overall with 513.526 total points. Sweeting ranks 7th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 166.250 points earned so far this season.
