Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) lost 8-3 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in the Final of the Meridian Canadian Open, held January 3 - 8, 2017 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. To advance to the championship game, Edin won 7-4 over John Morris (Vernon, BC) in the semifinals of the 2017 Meridian Canadian Open in North Battleford, Saskatchewan; and won 7-1 over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals.
 
Edin finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Edin defeated Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA) 4-3, then won 7-5 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) and 7-6 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Meridian Canadian Open, Edin take home 64.319 world rankings points along with the $18,000CDN prize, remaining in 4th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 25.942 after improving upon their best so far this season. Edin ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 500.418 points earned so far this season.
