Val Sweeting (Edmonton, AB) lost 8-4 to Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Westjet Players' Championship, held April 11 - 16, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Sweeting won 6-5 over Anna Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, SWE) in the semifinals of the 2017 Westjet Players' Championship in Toronto, Ontario; and won 4-3 over Rachel Homan (Ottawa, ON) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Westjet Players' Championship in Toronto, Ontario;
 
Sweeting finished 3-2 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sweeting defeated Eve Muirhead (Perth, SCO) 6-5, then won 7-1 against Hasselborg and 7-4 against Michelle Englot (Winnipeg, MB). Sweeting went on to lose 6-2 against Tracy Fleury (Sudbury, NONT). Sweeting lost 8-2 to Jones in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Westjet Players' Championship, Sweeting take home 58.628 world rankings points along with the $24,000CDN prize, remaining in 4th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 46.664 after improving upon their best so far this season. Sweeting ranks 6th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 325.544 points earned so far this season.
