Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) won 6-1 over Adam Casey (Regina, SK) in the Final of the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic, held January 19 - 22, 2017 at the Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, United States. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 8-3 over Bruce Korte (Saskatoon , SK) in the semifinals of the 2017 Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic in Tempe, Arizona, United States; and won 8-4 over Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals.
 
McEwen finished 4-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC) 5-3, then won 3-2 against Korte and 6-5 against Sean Geall (Kelowna, BC). McEwen won 4-1 against Nils Johansson (Tempe, AZ) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic Championship title, McEwen earned 41.851 world rankings points along with the $7,994CDN first prize cheque. McEwen move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 37.541 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 6th overall with 702.518 total points on the World Ranking Standings. McEwen ranks 11th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 244.597 points earned so far this season.
