Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) won 6-5 over Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB) in the Final of the Canad Inns Men's Classic, held October 14 - 17, 2016 at the Portage Curling Club in Portage La Prairie, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Carruthers won 4-2 over Shaun Meachem (Regina, SK) in the semifinals of the 2016 Canad Inns Men's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 9-4 over Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) in the quarterfinals.
Carruthers finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carruthers defeated Trevor Bonot (Thunder Bay, NONT) 8-2, then went on to lose 7-5 against Jason Ackerman (Regina, SK). Carruthers responded with a 6-1 win over Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR). Carruthers won 8-5 against William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB), then won 6-5 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Carruthers went on to lose 6-5 against John Morris (Vernon, BC). Carruthers responded with a 8-3 win over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Canad Inns Men's Classic Championship title, Carruthers earned 67.039 world rankings points along with the $18,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 3rd place overall with 547.189 total points. Carruthers ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 149.345 points earned so far this season.
