Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA) won 5-3 over John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in the Final of the Curl Mesabi Classic, held December 16 - 18, 2016 at the Curl Mesabi in Eveleth, United States. To advance to the championship game, McCormick won 3-2 over Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals   of the 2016 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States; and won 6-0 over Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT) in the quarterfinals.  of the 2016 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States; 
 
McCormick finished 3-1 in the 30-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McCormick lost 8-1 to Justin McBride (Orange County, CA), then responded with a 7-2 win over Tucker Smith (Bismarck, ND). McCormick won 7-0 against Mike Farbelow (St. Paul, MN), then won 7-0 against Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Curl Mesabi Classic Championship title, McCormick earned 31.314 world rankings points along with the $9,332CDN first prize cheque. McCormick move up 5 spots after posting a net gain of 28.499 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 30th overall with 202.084 total points on the World Ranking Standings. McCormick ranks 16th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 159.390 points earned so far this season.
