James Grattan (Oromocto, NB) lost 6-1 to Jean-Michel Menard (Gatineau, QC) in the Final of the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic, held December 2 - 4, 2016 at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Grattan won 7-2 over Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth, NS) in the semifinals of the 2016 WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada; and won 7-4 over Glen MacLeod (Halifax, NS) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada;
Grattan finished 4-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Grattan defeated Thompson 6-3, then went on to lose 9-8 against Rene Comeau (Fredericton, NB). Grattan responded with a 9-5 win over Tyler Harris (Charlottetown, PEI). Grattan won 7-5 against Terry Odishaw (Moncton, NB), then won 4-1 against Alex Robichaud (Moncton, NB) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic, Grattan take home 14.034 world rankings points along with the $3,300CDN prize, moving up 25 spots the World Ranking Standings into 93rd place overall with 53.927 total points. Grattan ranks 136th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 14.034 points earned so far this season.
