To advance to the championship game, Walstad won 7-2 over Kurt Balderston (Grande Prairie, AB) in the semifinals of the 2016 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta; and won 8-3 over Gustav Eskilsson (Skellefte�, SWE) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta;
 
Walstad finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Walstad defeated Rhett Friesz (Airdrie, AB) 6-1, then won 5-4 against deConinck Smith and 6-3 against Balderston in their final qualifying round match.
