Sobering finished 3-0 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sobering defeated Marty Lemert (Fort Wayne, IN) 8-6, then won 6-5 against John Paul Munich (Dalton, WI) and 10-4 against Rick Law (Kingsville, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Fort Wayne Mad Anthony CashSpiel Championship title, Sobering earned 6.752 world rankings points along with the $1,350CDN first prize cheque, moving up 85 spots the World Ranking Standings into 213th place overall with 12.624 total points.
