David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO) lost 4-3 to Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) in the Final of the Karuizawa International, held December 15 - 18, 2016 in Karuizawa, Japan.
 
Murdoch finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murdoch defeated Kenji Komoda (Kanagawa, JPN) 10-2, then went on to lose 6-5 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Murdoch responded with a 8-3 win over Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN). Murdoch won 6-2 against Gaku Suzuki (Sapporo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Karuizawa International, Murdoch take home 23.018 world rankings points along with the $6,786CDN prize, remaining in 10th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 21.639 after improving upon their best so far this season. Murdoch ranks 18th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 151.427 points earned so far this season.
