Gunnlaugson finished 2-1 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gunnlaugson defeated Cory Christensen (Blaine, USA) 6-3, then went on to lose 7-4 against van Dorp. Gunnlaugson responded with a 4-1 win over Michael Brunner (Gstaad, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Performance Spider Midweek Special Championship title, Gunnlaugson earned 20.830 world rankings points along with the $1,200CDN first prize cheque.
