To advance to the championship game, Sturmay won 8-1 over Ryan Jacques (Edmonton, AB) in the semifinals of the 2016 Leduc LIONS Junior Mens Bonspiel in Leduc, Alberta; and won 9-1 over Cailen Knopp (Calgary, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Leduc LIONS Junior Mens Bonspiel in Leduc, Alberta;
 
Sturmay finished 3-0 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Cole Adams (Calgary, AB) 8-3, then won 8-4 against Derek Bowyer (Medicine Hat, AB) and 6-3 against Jacob Libbus (Black Diamond, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
