Greg Persinger (Fairbanks, AK) finished 7-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Persinger defeated Paul Mendoza (Burbank, CA) 9-1, then won 7-5 against Sidney Schroeder (Houghton, MI) and 6-3 against Greg Wilson (Chicago, IL). Persinger won 8-3 against Robert Melville (Wayland, MA). Persinger went on to lose 8-2 against Dan Schally (Madison, WI). Persinger responded with a 10-1 win over Todd Ussatis (Bismarck, ND). Persinger won 8-4 against Darrick Kizlyk (Denver, CO), then won 5-4 against Hunter Clawson (Duluth, MN). Persinger went on to lose 8-7 against Fred Maxie (Seattle, WA) in their final qualifying round match.
