To advance to the championship game, Purcell won 6-5 over Ryan Abraham (Halifax, NS) in the semifinals of the 2016 Lakeshore Junior Men's Cashspiel in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia;
 
Purcell finished 2-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Purcell defeated Tyler Gouthro (Dartmouth, NS) 11-1, then went on to lose 5-3 against Abraham. Purcell lost 8-3 to Jackson where Purcell responded with a 7-3 win over Graeme Weagle (Chester, NS) in their final qualifying round match.
