To advance to the championship game, Sturmay won 4-3 over Colton Goller (Lethbridge, AB) in the semifinals of the 2017 AJCT Men's Players' Championship in Lacombe, Alberta;
 
Sturmay finished 3-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay lost 4-3 to van Amsterdam, then responded with a 6-5 win over Ryan Parent (Calgary, AB). Sturmay went on to lose 5-4 against Kyler Kleibrink (Calgary, AB). Sturmay responded with a 4-3 win over Lucas Bartz (Ellerslie, AB). Sturmay won 6-3 against Kleibrink in their final qualifying round match.
