Todd Birr (Blaine, MN) lost 8-7 to John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in the Final of the USA Men's National Curling Championship, held February 11 - 18, 2017 in Everett, Washington.

Birr finished 6-3 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Birr defeated Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA) 10-2, then won 8-7 against Stephen Dropkin (Minneapolis, MN). Birr went on to lose 7-6 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN). Birr responded with a 6-5 win over Alex Leichter (Boston, MA). Birr won 8-7 against Hunter Clawson (Laurel, MD). Birr went on to lose 9-4 against Brady Clark (Seattle, WA). Birr responded with a 8-5 win over Craig Brown (Blaine, USA). Birr won 9-1 against Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO). Birr went on to lose 7-6 against Shuster in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the USA Men's National Curling Championship, Birr take home 32.401 world rankings points. Birr move up 5 spots after posting a net gain of 31.399 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 48th overall with 154.265 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Birr ranks 37th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 102.911 points earned so far this season.
