Seppo Sormunen (Duluth, MN) finished 3-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sormunen defeated Paul Matzke (Madison, WI) 6-5, then won 8-2 against Jerry Van Brunt (Denver, CO). Sormunen went on to lose 8-5 against Dennis Mellerup (Ardsley, NY). Sormunen responded with a 6-1 win over Brian Brenengen (Centerville, WI). Sormunen went on to lose 6-5 against Mike Farbelow (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
