Margie Smith (St. Paul, MN) lost 7-5 to Patti Lank (Madison, WI) in the Final of the USA Senior Women's National Championship, held January 25 - 29, 2017 in Beaverton, Oregon. To advance to the championship game, Smith won 10-0 over Susan Carothers (Fairbanks, AK) in the semifinals
 
Smith finished 3-1 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith defeated Nadyne Krienke (Seattle, WA) 8-3, then won 9-3 against Kathryn Watson (Portland, OR). Smith went on to lose 7-2 against Lank. Smith responded with a 6-5 win over Carol Ann Naso (Tempe, AZ) in their final qualifying round match.
