After advancing directly to the championship game, Phil Gorveatt (Charlottetown, PEI) lost 8-2 to MacKenzie in the Final of the PEI Tankard, held January 19 - 22, 2017 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Phil Gorveatt (Charlottetown, PEI) run at the 2017 PEI Tankard came to an end in the semifinals with a 9-7 loss to Eddie MacKenzie (Charlottetown, PEI). of the 2017 PEI Tankard in Summerside, Prince Edward Island;
 
Gorveatt finished 6-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gorveatt defeated Robert Campbell (Charlottetown, PEI) 7-6, then went on to lose 6-4 against Blair Jay (Summerside, PEI). Gorveatt responded with a 11-2 win over Calvin Smith (Summerside, PEI). Gorveatt won 8-3 against MacKenzie, then won 8-2 against Jay and 7-2 against Tyler Harris (Charlottetown, PEI). Gorveatt won 9-8 against Campbell in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the PEI Tankard, Gorveatt take home 3.713 world rankings points, moving up 72 spots the World Ranking Standings into 325th place overall with 7.129 total points. Gorveatt ranks 306th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 3.713 points earned so far this season.
