Ross Whyte (Dumfries, SCO) lost 9-7 to Cameron Bryce (Border, SCO) in the Final of the Scottish Curling Junior Championships, held January 18 - 22, 2017 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
 
Whyte finished 6-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Whyte defeated David Baird (Edinburgh, SCO) 8-3, then won 9-7 against Luke Carson (Lanarkshire, SCO). Whyte went on to lose 7-5 against Bryce. Whyte responded with a 7-6 win over James Craik (Forfar, SCO). Whyte won 6-2 against Cameron McNay (Lockerbie, SCO), then won 7-3 against Craig Joiner (Forfar, SCO) and 8-2 against Ben Cormack (Kinross, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Scottish Curling Junior Championships, Whyte take home 7.054 world rankings points. For week of the event schedule, Whyte did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Whyte ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
