Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) won 9-1 over Steffen Walstad (Oppdal, NOR) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, held September 5 - 10, 2017 in Regina, Saskatchewan. To advance to the championship game, Gushue won 5-2 over Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) in the semifinals of the 2017 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Regina, Saskatchewan; and won 7-5 over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in the quarterfinals.
 
Gushue finished 4-0 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated Glenn Howard (Islington, ON) 8-1, then won 6-1 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA) and 8-4 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). Gushue won 8-3 against Peter De Cruz (Geneva, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 Championship title, Gushue earned 74.729 world rankings points along with the $20,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 2nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 595.261 total points. Gushue ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 74.729 points earned so far this season.
