In their opening game, Bottcher defeated Jason Ackerman (Regina, SK) 11-1, then won 7-5 against Josh Heidt (Saskatoon, SK) and 9-3 against Adam Casey (Regina, SK). Bottcher won 5-4 against Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
