William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) lost 8-7 to Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2, held September 5 - 10, 2017 in Regina, Saskatchewan. To advance to the championship game, Lyburn won 7-6 over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in the semifinals   of the 2017 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 in Regina, Saskatchewan; and won 5-4 over Rui Liu (Harbin, CHN) in the quarterfinals.  of the 2017 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 in Regina, Saskatchewan; 
 
Lyburn finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Lyburn defeated Jason Jacobson (Saskatoon, SK) 4-3, then won 6-2 against Craig Brown (Madison, USA). Lyburn went on to lose 6-1 against Gunnlaugson. Lyburn responded with a 6-2 win over Greg Drummond (Stirling, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2, Lyburn take home 36.551 world rankings points along with the $8,000CDN prize, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 22nd place overall with 180.989 total points. Lyburn ranks 8th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 51.323 points earned so far this season.
