To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 6-4 over Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in the semifinals of the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Ottawa, Ontario;
 
McEwen finished 5-3 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) 7-3, then won 3-1 against John Morris (Vernon, BC) and 8-5 against John Epping (Toronto, ON). McEwen went on to lose 6-5 against Koe. McEwen responded with a 10-4 win over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK). McEwen went on to lose 8-3 against Gushue. McEwen lost 6-3 to Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) where McEwen responded with a 6-4 win over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, McEwen take home 69.935 world rankings points, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 5th place overall with 637.835 total points.
