To advance to the championship game, Montgomery won 6-4 over Brent Pierce (New Westminster , BC) in the semifinals of the 2017 Driving Force Abbotsford Cashspiel in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada; and won 6-5 over Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Driving Force Abbotsford Cashspiel in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada;
Montgomery finished 2-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Montgomery defeated British Columbia's Neil Dangerfield 7-6, then went on to lose 8-2 against Joanisse. Montgomery responded with a 7-4 win over Mark Longworth (Vernon, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
