Roy finished 3-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Roy defeated Stopera 7-4, then won 8-1 against Greg Schatzman (Seattle, WA). Roy went on to lose 8-4 against Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA). Roy responded with a 10-3 win over Alex Leichter (Boston, MA) in their final qualifying round match.
