Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) qualified for the 2017 Curl Mesabi Classic playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-5 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN). of the 2017 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States;
 
Balsdon finished 3-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Balsdon defeated Kyle Foster (Winnipeg, MB) 9-5, then won 8-3 against Tom Scott (Hibbing, MN). Balsdon went on to lose 9-2 against Northern Ontario's Dylan Johnston. Balsdon responded with a 7-1 win over Joe Polo (Duluth, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Balsdon earned 12.200 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Curl Mesabi Classic, remaining in 22nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 10.611 after improving upon their best so far this season.
