Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) qualified for the 2017 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 5-2 against Pat Simmons (Winnipeg, MB).

Laycock finished 5-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated Jamie King (Edmonton, AB) 7-5, then went on to lose 6-3 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Laycock responded with a 5-4 win over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB). Laycock went on to lose 6-1 against John Morris (Vernon, BC). Laycock responded with a 4-2 win over Kurt Balderston (Edmonton, AB). Laycock won 8-4 against Josh Heidt (Saskatoon, SK), then won 5-4 against Morozumi in their final qualifying round match.

Laycock earned 24.703 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic, remaining in 11th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 339.285 total points. Laycock ranks 17th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 59.035 points earned so far this season.
