Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth, NS) run at the 2017 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel came to an end in the semifinals with a 5-4 loss to Kurt Balderston (Grande Prairie, AB). of the 2017 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta; Thompson advanced through the quarterfinals with a 7-6 win over Rui Liu (Harbin, CHN).

Thompson finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thompson defeated Rhett Friesz (Airdrie, AB) 8-2, then won 5-3 against Kevin Park (Edmonton, AB) and 5-4 against Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
