Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) lost 6-4 to Manitoba's Mike McEwen in the Final of the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic, held January 11 - 14, 2018 at the Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, United States. To advance to the championship game, Laycock won 7-2 over John Epping (Toronto, ON) in the semifinals of the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic in Tempe, Arizona, United States;
 
Laycock finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated 's Richard Muntain 6-4, then won 6-2 against Mike Siggins (Tempe, AZ). Laycock went on to lose 7-5 against Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC). Laycock responded with a 6-4 win over Epping in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic, Laycock take home 27.417 world rankings points along with the $3,730CDN prize. Laycock move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 26.123 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 12th overall with 399.242 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Laycock ranks 27th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 118.992 points earned so far this season.
