Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) lost 6-4 to Manitoba's Mike McEwen in the Final of the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic, held January 11 - 14, 2018 at the Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, United States. To advance to the championship game, Laycock won 7-2 over John Epping (Toronto, ON) in the semifinals of the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic in Tempe, Arizona, United States;
 
Laycock finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated 's Richard Muntain 6-4, then won 6-2 against Mike Siggins (Tempe, AZ). Laycock went on to lose 7-5 against Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC). Laycock responded with a 6-4 win over Epping in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic, Laycock take home 27.417 world rankings points along with the $3,730CDN prize. Laycock move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 26.123 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 12th overall with 399.242 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
