To advance to the championship game, Matsumura won 6-3 over Ayumi Ogasawara (Sapporo, JPN) in the semifinals of the 2017 Karuizawa International in Karuizawa, Japan; and won 5-3 over Un-Chi Gim (Gyeonggi-do, KOR) in the quarterfinals.
 
Matsumura finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsumura defeated Mayu Natsuizaka (Sapporo, JPN) 4-2, then won 5-3 against Alina Paetz (Zurich, SUI). Matsumura went on to lose 7-4 against Gim. Matsumura lost 6-2 to Eve Muirhead (Perth , SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Karuizawa International, Matsumura take home 36.338 world rankings points along with the $6,853CDN prize, moving up 8 spots the World Ranking Standings into 42nd place overall with 151.599 total points. Matsumura ranks 45th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 63.767 points earned so far this season.
