To advance to the championship game, Kim won 5-4 over Kyle Smith (Perth, SCO) in the semifinals of the 2017 Karuizawa International in Karuizawa, Japan; and won 6-3 over Arihito Kasahara (Tokyo, JPN) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Karuizawa International in Karuizawa, Japan;
 
Kim finished 4-0 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kim defeated Hiromu Otani (kitami, JPN) 7-1, then won 8-2 against Hiromitsu Kuriyama (Nagano, JPN) and 6-4 against Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN). Kim won 7-4 against Patric Mabergs (Skelleftea, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Karuizawa International, Kim take home 22.378 world rankings points along with the $6,853CDN prize.
