Rich Ruohonen (Seattle, USA) qualified for the 2018 World Mens Curling Championship playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-4 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN). of the 2018 World Mens Curling Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada;

Ruohonen finished 6-6 in the 13-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ruohonen defeated Masaki Iwai (Hokkaido, JPN) 6-5, then went on to lose 6-4 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED). Ruohonen lost 7-5 to Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR). Ruohonen lost 7-5 to Steffen Walstad (Oppdal, NOR). Ruohonen lost 7-6 to Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO). Ruohonen lost 7-2 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Ruohonen lost 7-6 to Alexey Timofeev (Moscow, RUS) where Ruohonen responded with a 8-5 win over Alexander Baumann (Baden-Baden, GER). Ruohonen won 5-3 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA), then won 6-5 against Gushue and 7-4 against De Jia Zou (Harbin, CHN). Ruohonen won 5-3 against Marc Pfister (Adelboden, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.

Ruohonen earned 28.991 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the World Mens Curling Championship. Ruohonen move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 24.975 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 24th overall with 303.578 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Ruohonen ranks 18th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 187.741 points earned so far this season.
