Iwai lost 9-2 to Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) where Iwai responded with a 8-3 win over Alexander Baumann (Baden-Baden, GER). Iwai went on to lose 10-9 against Marc Pfister (Adelboden, SUI). Iwai lost 7-3 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.

Iwai earned 7.248 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 72 spots the World Ranking Standings into 225th place overall with 17.223 total points. Iwai ranks 157th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 17.223 points earned so far this season.
