Brayden Payette (Brandon, MB) won 8-6 over Weston Oryniak (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Deer Lodge Icebreaker, held September 28 - October 1, 2017 at the Deer Lodge Curling Club in Winnipeg, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Payette won 7-1 over Brett Walter (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2017 Deer Lodge Icebreaker in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and won 5-3 over Justin Fontaine (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Deer Lodge Icebreaker in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada;

Payette finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Payette lost 7-6 to Jordan Peters (Winnipeg, MB), then responded with a 7-0 win over Joshua Friesen (Altona, MB). Payette won 8-1 against Carter Watkins (Swan River, MB), then won 9-2 against Zack Bilawka (Winniepg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Deer Lodge Icebreaker Championship title, Payette earned 0.000 world rankings points along with the $600CDN first prize cheque. For week 8 of the event schedule, Payette did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Payette ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
