To advance to the championship game, Grassie won 7-5 over Manitoba's Jordan Smith in the semifinals of the 2017 King Spud Classic in Carberry, Manitoba, Canada; and won 7-1 over Richard Muntain (Pinawa, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 King Spud Classic in Carberry, Manitoba, Canada;
 
Grassie finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Grassie defeated Cale Dunbar (Brandon, MB) 8-5, then won 7-2 against Andrew Hunt (Winnipeg, MB) and 7-1 against Manitoba's Jordan Smith in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the King Spud Classic, Grassie take home 12.013 world rankings points along with the $1,750CDN prize. Grassie move up 11 spots after posting a net gain of 11.2 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 72nd overall with 80.094 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Grassie ranks 49th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 62.314 points earned so far this season.
