Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Sturmay finished 7-3 in the 14-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Javen Komaksiutiksak (Iqaluit, NU) 16-0, then went on to lose 6-5 against Tanner Horgan (Sudbury, NONT). Sturmay responded with a 12-2 win over Sawer Kaeser (Fort Smith, NT). Sturmay won 7-3 against Alex MacFadyen (Summerside, PEI), then won 10-3 against Daniel Bruce (Corner Brook, NL). Sturmay went on to lose 8-7 against Matthew Hall (Kitcher-Waterloo, ON). Sturmay responded with a 5-4 win over Alek Bedard (Lacolle, QC). Sturmay won 9-3 against Tyler Tardi (Langley, BC). Sturmay went on to lose 6-3 against Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS). Sturmay responded with a 6-5 win over JT Ryan (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.

Sturmay earned 4.168 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 24 of the event schedule, Sturmay did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Sturmay ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
