Shimizu finished 6-2 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shimizu defeated Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) 3-0, then won 7-3 against Minori Suzuki (Aomori, JPN) and 9-8 against Kazuhisa Unoura (Osaka, JPN). Shimizu went on to lose 4-3 against Iwai. Shimizu lost 8-5 to Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) where Shimizu responded with a 9-7 win over Tatsuya Ogawa (Hokkaido, JPN). Shimizu won 9-5 against Atsushi Kamigochi (Hokkaido, JPN), then won 4-3 against Naomasa Takeda (Sapporo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Shimizu earned 6.056 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the Japan Curling Championship, moving up 336 spots the World Ranking Standings into 358th place overall with 6.056 total points. Shimizu ranks 265th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 6.056 points earned so far this season.
