McEwen went on to lose 6-3 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN). McEwen lost 6-5 to Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) where McEwen responded with a 9-7 win over Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC). McEwen won 8-4 against Scott McDonald (Kingston, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
