McDonald responded with a 10-9 win over Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC). McDonald won 7-4 against Kirk Muyres (Saskatoon, SK), then won 7-6 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON). McDonald went on to lose 6-4 against Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB). McDonald lost 8-4 to Mike McEwen (West St. Paul, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
McDonald earned 22.508 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 15th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 5.696 after improving upon their best so far this season. McDonald ranks 15th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 228.959 points earned so far this season.
