Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) finished 6-3 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Retornaz defeated Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED) 10-6, then won 7-6 against Peter De Cruz (Geneve, SUI) and 7-5 against Steffen Walstad (Oppdal, NOR). Retornaz won 11-4 against Wille Makela (Hyvinkaa, FIN). Retornaz went on to lose 11-4 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Retornaz responded with a 9-3 win over Marc Muskatewitz (Baden Baden, GER). Retornaz went on to lose 7-6 against Bruce Mouat (Stirling, SCO). Retornaz responded with a 6-4 win over Bartosz Dzikowski (Katowice, POL). Retornaz went on to lose 10-6 against Mikhail Vaskov (Dmitrov, RUS) in their final qualifying round match.

Retornaz earned 36.216 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the Le Gruyere AOP European Curling Championships. Retornaz move up 28 spots after posting a net gain of 33.852 points improving upon their best 6 results so far this season, ranking 47th overall with 88.275 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Retornaz ranks 34th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 74.092 points earned so far this season.
